Tesla Semi: high-volume production starts in Nevada
Tesla Semi launched high-volume production at the Sparks plant. Company target about 50,000 trucks a year. Elon congratulated the Semi team.
Why it matters: Tesla moved Semi from pilot builds to a company-declared high-volume production launch at the dedicated Sparks plant.
Tesla Semi account posted the line that ends years of pilot-scale trucking: "Semi is here. Today, we're launching high volume production." Tesla's main account pointed to a rollout summary thread the same hour. The company framed the moment as the start of volume builds and customer handoffs from the dedicated Semi plant in Sparks, Nevada, next to Gigafactory Nevada.
That is the product beat. Wire desks already have delivery and factory-open stories. The primary package is the company launch post plus Elon's same-day note congratulating the Tesla Semi team "on engineering and, even harder, bringing to production an amazing machine."
Company materials around the rollout put the factory in the ballpark of 1.7 to 1.8 million square feet with a nameplate target of about 50,000 trucks a year on one flexible line for Standard, Long Range, and European-spec builds. Tesla has said the high-volume line started earlier in 2026 (first truck off the volume line in April) and that this week is the ceremonial rollout plus the push into broader customer deliveries. Nameplate capacity is not the same as 2026 run rate. Public analyst ranges for this year still sit well below 50,000.
On the truck itself, Tesla's long-range claim remains up to about 500 miles loaded on a charge, with a shorter-range trim also in the mix. The rollout thread stresses vertical integration (stampings, 4680 cells, drive hardware, thermal gear) plus fully electric steering on a heavy-duty truck and a heat-pump stack Tesla says is shared with Cybercab engineering. Those are company claims from the launch package, not independent tear-downs.
Customers named across company and trade coverage include fleets that already ran early Semis, among them PepsiCo, DHL, US Foods, and Einride. Tesla has not published a full order book or a weekly build rate in the launch posts reviewed here.
Elon, away from the Nevada stage, posted a short factory note and the congrats line above. He has separately said the waiting list is already "pretty significant" and urged more orders. Autonomy for the Semi is still framed as coming, not shipping unsupervised with this rollout.
Confirmed - Tesla Semi on X: "Semi is here" / "Today, we're launching high volume production" - Tesla on X: Semi Rollout summary thread pointing at that launch post - Elon on X: congrats to the Tesla Semi team on engineering and bringing the truck to production - Company framing: dedicated Sparks plant, ~50,000/year nameplate target, volume path after April line start - Early fleet names in coverage: PepsiCo, DHL, US Foods, Einride and others
Not confirmed - Exact trucks built or delivered this week - 2026 full-year Semi volume - Unsupervised FSD on Semi with this launch - Final pricing sheet for every market trim
What to watch Tesla build and delivery counts in the next fleet updates, Megacharger corridor build-out, and whether Semi autonomy gets a dated software target after the factory show.
