Starlink Mobile live in Uganda with Airtel
Starlink says Starlink Mobile is available in Uganda with Airtel Uganda for apps and messaging where cell signal is not. Second African market after DRC.
Why it matters: Official Starlink post names Airtel Uganda for Starlink Mobile, the second African direct-to-cell market after DRC.
Starlink posted that Starlink Mobile is live in Uganda with Airtel Uganda. In Starlink's Thursday post, the company wrote that the service connects people in rural and remote communities with apps and messaging where cell signal is not available, and called Uganda the second African country to launch after the Democratic Republic of Congo.
That matches the recent Starlink Mobile pattern: a named local carrier, direct phone path (no dish), and a focus on coverage gaps rather than residential kit installs. Desk already has a September 1 package for dish-based Starlink availability in Uganda. This card is the direct-to-cell open, not a second dish story.
Airtel Africa and local outlets framed the commercial start after a December 2025 Airtel Africa partnership and earlier pilots. Coverage is described as SMS plus light data such as WhatsApp messaging when the phone has a clear view of the sky and loses terrestrial signal. A free trial window and app opt-in show up in carrier coverage; Starlink's own post does not list a consumer rate card.
Confirmed from the primary: Uganda plus Airtel Uganda; apps and messaging where cell is missing; second African market after DRC.
Not confirmed in the Starlink post: full voice or video support, every handset model, nationwide performance numbers, or a fixed end date for any carrier trial.
What to watch: carrier app signup path, supported device list, and whether the next Airtel Africa markets ship the same messaging-first profile.
